Woody

I have been watching my local Greater Spotted Woodpecker this afternoon and from the red patch on the back of the Woodpeckers head you can tell this is a male, females don't have this red mark.

I haven't seen the female for a while, perhaps she is on the nest?

Here's a few shots that I took, hope you like them.

  2. It's a lovely woodpecker! Woodpeckers the world over seem to have similarities....black and white feathers, red on the male's head and less or not at all on the females. I'm curious about the red part near the tail?

  6. Great shots Mike. I really like the close up of the head on the woodpecker. You can actually see the little feathers that stick out at teh base of the bill. Lots of birds have these but they are nearly impossible to see. You captured this one just right.
